The Last Human?... | Chapter 5: The Unleashed Fury of Will's Abandonment
Panic struck and Ava froze to the spot. Will seemed like he was going to throw up. "I said, where do you think you're going?" Lian demanded for an answer. Ava and Will looked at each other. Ava gave him a frightened but clear look that said "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" And Will gave a nod. Ava said quietly but audibly. "Run." They sprinted as several wolves chased against them, legs beating in muddy ground. But then, within a blink of an eye, they saw winged bodies scooping them up mid air.
"EEK!" Will screeched as the two figures pulled them up, giving them an unexpected fright. "Keep quiet, hybrid. Anyways, can't you fly since you're a bird?" One of them said, clearly peeved. "Correction, no one ever taught me to fly. Anyways, who are you two? Are you going to eat us alive?" Will blurted out. "Uh hybrid, of course not. Why would we eat you both alive? I think you two are rather big to even fit in our mouths!" The figure said again. "Oh, and if you want to know who we are, then wait. No screeching," she looked pointedly at Will, "required at all." "Geez, what did I do?" Will muttered to himself. Soon, they eventually saw a tunnel leading to the rather grim dark. "This is it. Our home." She lowered them down and they stepped into the ground. Ava never felt this relief to have two feet into the ground. They led them to an underground bunker (the tunnel was a disguise) with people putting things around and helping out. Ava scanned the room until looked at two too familiar people. Her jaw dropped. It was her parents.
"Mum, Dad!! Where were you these whole time?" Ava reached in for a hug until one of the people pushed her away from her parents. "What are you doing?!" Ava yelled as she yanked the person away. "STOOOOPPPP!" The person hollered aloud to Ava. Ava stopped to face the person. It was... a hybrid, just like Will. But the hybrid was wearing a hood, so she couldn't make out her face. "Why aren't you letting me hug my parents?" Ava said. "Because if you touch them, you'll be like them. Inhumane, stuck in a trance." The person finally took their hood off, as it revealed feathery wing-arms and her body covered with feathers. "My name's Mira. And what's your..." Mira's voice trailed off as she looked at Will. "Will? Is that you?" Mira looked at him as if he was a newborn child.
Will's expression suddenly looked hurt and betrayed, and not in Will-like way, he stomped off away from the bunker blinking hot tears. "Wait..." Mira said as he watched him leave. She ran after Will and pleaded him to stop. Finally, Will turned to her. "Why did you leave me?" Will said firmly but wavering. "I... It's hard to explain." Mira finally said as she looked down at her feet. "Then why did you beg me to stop?" Will said angrily. "We left you because..." Mira again trailed off. "WHY?! For what valid reason did you..." Will paused. "Abandon me?!" Will shouted at her. "You left me alone, leaving me to dust. Hungry, alone. For years, I've been hoping for something that was merely impossible. You. Coming. Back. Why should I even call you my mum?! You don't deserve to be called that. You deserve to be called a BACKSTABBER!!" Will yelled and finished his declaration. "I am leaving and never coming back. JUST LIKE YOU DID FOR 15 WHOLE YEARS!" Will bellowed and stomped away. Ava sighed. Now this was hard for Will to make him feel better. And it was going to require lots and lots of explaining for his mum to do.
