How to Draw Tatreez-Inspired Art

What's good y'all? I'm so sorry for not posting after a ridiculously long time. I was taking a break... I really hope this blog post can make up for it.

Okay! Why are you guys reading this blog today? WELL, at school I learnt more about Palestinian tradition of making Tatreez; a type of stitching or embroidery used on... anything! Mostly clothes, wallets, bags etc.

here's an example of one

See the crosses that join together to make a picture? That's where I got my inspiration. So that's what we'll be doing today. BUT with a twist. Wanna know how? Well, what are you waiting for? There's a feature to scroll in your device for a reason, just so you know.

 Materials required!

Felt-tips pens (I recommend using it, but it's still your choice), some grid paper (I used a maths book in this case) a pencil and a rubber

Step 1 - Sketch out your design
This is pretty obvious. Almost anyone can figure out what the first step is for drawing. If you're REALLY stuck, then here's a list of things I normally draw.

- Buildings
- Food and/or drinks
- Your surroundings
- Things around your home

TIP! I suggest not to draw something very detailed and/or complicated. It's gonna be quite increasingly hard when your gonna draw designs on each shape.*
*check the next few steps for examples of what I'm trying to explain.
 It's really complicated OKAY?! 🫠

ANOTHER TIP! I also suggest to draw your design LIGHTLY when sketching. It ain't easy to erase, and trace over your design. TRUST ME, ain't easy.

Step 2 - Trace your drawing
The next thing you have to do is just grab the felt tip pen you're using and trace over the pencil. You can use any colour you want, but sticking to one colour should be good enough.

And the last step. Remember Step 1 about the complicated shape  explanation? Yeah, you'll see what I mean!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 3 - Decorate the shapes with different patterns
See what I mean? Each shape has been filled in patterns INSTEAD of colour to make it pop out a bit more.

In the clouds I've drawn some tiger stripes, and some crosses by inspiration of Tatreez. It doesn't have to be the 2 patterns I've listed. But you know what? You can do so much more.

AND that's it for this week's blog. I really hope you enjoyed it. Let me know in the comments on what blog post I should do next time in the next week. Other then that, see you all on next Saturday!
