Top 10. Books of 2025 📚 (so far...) Part 1

Hello everyone 💖! If you read my post about me, you're probably aware about my passionate love for books. I've been reading books since I was a toddler. So in this blog, I really wanted to share with you my Top 10. Books of 2025 (so far...). At the end of the year, I'll post another blog about another batch of books I enjoyed this year too. I think I really want to make this idea into an annual thing! With that, let's see my ranking!

(stick around the end for some bonus content!)

By Kwame Alexander

Book Blurb
Twelve-year-old Nick is a soccer-loving boy who absolutely hates books. In this graphic novel version of Booked, the follow-up to the Newbery Medal–winning novel The Crossover, soccer, family, love, and friendship take center stage as Nick tries to figure out how to navigate his parents’ divorce, stand up to a bully, and impress the girl of his dreams. These challenges—which seem even harder than scoring a tie-breaking, game-winning goal—change his life, as well as his best friend’s.

What I really liked about this book was how relatable it was. Disappointment, sadness, happiness, everything was really well put. It focused on Nick's life, about whether friendship or competition mattered the most, and about getting through his parents' divorce. It showed that not everyone's life is picture perfect as it seems. Bonus points: and since Nick's dad as a logophile (obsessed with words), I learnt a few words from the book too!

By Tegan Quin and Sara Quin

From indie-pop twin-sister duo Tegan and Sara comes a contemporary middle grade graphic novel that explores growing up, coming out, and finding yourself through music and sisterhood, perfect for fans of Raina Telgemeier's Sisters.

Before Tegan and Sara took the music world by storm, the Quins were just two identical twins trying to find their place in a new home and new school. From first crushes to the perils of puberty, surviving junior high is something the sisters plan to face side by side, just like they've always faced things. But growing up also means growing apart, as Tegan and Sara make different friends and take separate paths to understanding their queerness. For the first time ever, they ask who one sister is without the other.

Set in the present day, this effervescent blend of fiction and autobiography, with artwork from Eisner Award–winner Tillie Walden, offers a glimpse at the two sisters before they became icons, exploring their shifting relationship, their own experiences coming out, and the first steps of their musical journey.

A prequel of sorts to the authors' bestselling adult memoir High School, now an 8-episode Freevee television series!

This was a book that I found browsing through a nearby bookshop called Unity Books. I saw the cover, the blurb, the everything. And walking back home, I mentally reminded myself to borrow that book from the library. And I did. I'm really glad I did. I never knew I would relate to two preteen twins in so many different ways. This story is about the ups and downs of friendships and siblings-ship. But it's also about Tegan and Sara's shared love of music, and how their passion all started.

By Molly Knox Ostertag

From New York Times bestselling author Molly Knox Ostertag and critically acclaimed illustrator Xanthe Bouma comes an all-new Dungeons & Dragons graphic novel series! Middle school is a dungeon… At least, that’s how Jess sees it. Luckily, she and her best friend Olivia know how to escape into the sprawling worlds of their own imaginations. The two friends have always loved making up stories, first with little kid games of make-believe, and more recently with the fantasy roleplaying game, Dungeons & Dragons. When they play, Olivia runs the game as Dungeon Master and Jess is the solo party member, playing a take-no-prisoners, lone-wolf fighter of her own design named Sir Corius. But when Olivia wants to add new players to their group, Jess finds herself struggling to share their game—and her best friend. Will their epic campaign withstand all this change, or has their adventure—and their friendship—finally come to an end?

- goodreads

One thing I have to say about this is how delicious the art style is. It's so well coloured, and this is partly the reason why I really loved reading this. Another reason why I loved this was because I liked how Molly had displayed the characters playing the game, and them as their fictionalised characters in their imaginary D&D world. It helped me visualised a bit more about the story line in their D&D games.

By Tae Keller

Newbery Medal Winner (2021)

Some stories refuse to stay bottled up...

When Lily and her family move in with her sick grandmother, a magical tiger straight out of her halmoni's Korean folktales arrives, prompting Lily to unravel a secret family history. Long, long ago, Halmoni stole something from the tigers. Now they want it back. And when one of the tigers approaches Lily with a deal--return what her grandmother stole in exchange for Halmoni's health--Lily is tempted to agree. But deals with tigers are never what they seem! With the help of her sister and her new friend Ricky, Lily must find her voice...and the courage to face a tiger.

- goodreads

This book had inserted a good amount of Korean folktales and Lily and her halmoni's connection toward each other. This story was really well paced, and I really liked Tae's writing style in a first person narrative. The vibes in this book is magical, whimsical, and not like other books I've read before. As you read this book, there's a lot of character development with Sam, Lily's moody and grumpy older sister, as she softens up to be a more caring and responsible sibling.

By Emma Steinkellner

“A satisfying, brilliant sequel, solidifying Steinkellner’s reputation as a graphic novelist to watch.” — School Library Journal (starred review)

In this hilarious and heartwarming sequel to the bestselling and critically acclaimed graphic novel, The Okay Witch , half-witch Moth Hush uses magic to boost her confidence with disastrous results—perfect for fans of Raina Telgemeier and Molly Ostertag!

Moth Hush is starting to settle into her newfound witch heritage and powers, but life at school continues to be rough. Even her best friend, Charlie, doesn’t entirely understand what it’s like for her to always be the one who gets mocked, and things only get worse when Moth’s mom starts dating one of the dorkiest teachers in the school! Then Moth gets hold of a mysterious charm that can unleash another version of herself—one who is confident, cool, and extremely popular. What could possibly go wrong?

- goodreads

I really liked the moral of the story. It's about accepting yourself, and about loving yourself for who you are. There's also loads of magical action throughout the book, and Moth enhancing her skills in magic. Again, there's a lot of character and friendship development.
