K-Pop Demon Hunters Movie Review!
Plot (in case you don't know) written in my own words:
For many generations, there will always be three chosen people to save the Honmoon from weakening. Honmoon is a barrier around the Earth that strengthens when people hearts are touched, or they feel in harmony.
Now, about the three chosen people. These people are chosen based on their singing and performing abilities, because instead of being known as "demon hunters", they will be known as pop-stars when really, their job is to maintain harmony with their song, and fend off demons who enter the Earth.
And this year's chosen are Rumi - the leader -, Mira and Zoey. Their most important goal?
To seal the Golden Honmoon, basically not enabling demons to step foot into the human world forever.
But then, HUNTR/X stumbles upon a new boy band in the streets, only to find the patterns in their skins. The Saja Boys are demons. And the reason why the Saja Boys entered the human world in the first place was because they wanted to prevent the Golden Honmoon to be sealed by quite literally, feeding on peoples' souls, weakening the Honmoon and making it even harder to seal it.
HUNTRI/X sneaks into a Saja Boys concert after the people who got hypnotised and walks like mindless zombies into the event venue. And fortunately, with their strength and song, they make harmony to the people being in a trance, and not sealing the Golden Honmoon, but making a new one.
Opinions!:
I really loved how every character was different and unique in their own ways. Different personalities - especially polar opposites - are always fun to watch. Both HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys occasionally injected humour and lore throughout the film, and they just snuck the lore in so flawlessly. It was like seeing parts of people's lives before they became famous. The art is obviously eye-candy, and I really liked how smooth the animation flowed.
What can be improved though is adding more lore for the characters, the Saja Boys especially. I know that Zoey has American roots, and Mira's family line... ehh, not in good terms?? By adding a bit more lore for HUNTR/X and loads more for the Saja Boys would spark more interest. And maybe for Rujinu not to be a... failed ship (iykyk). (╥﹏╥)
So, to answer the title of the blog's question, I would say... a tiny bit. Even the KPDH infection (highly contagious) has spread to my school, and the boys are blaring Golden and Soda Pop audibly to the point where the teacher has had enough and doesn't even bother telling them off. True story. There was even a time when a girl did the Soda Pop dance in front of the Year 7s and said "I'M THE BEST AT THIS DANCE, I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO DO IT BWAHAHAHAHHA" and my friends and I stared at each other as if we saw an unorthodox creature enter this planet.
But I got to say, as a non K-pop fan, the songs in the show are actually peak. They're catchy, and the only audio I hear is EJAE belting out "BORN TO BEEE" in my YT feed. At times it's kinda annoying, but hey, good movie at least.
Overall rating: ★★★★.5
